Why was everything she was saying making him think about sex?

Here she’d firmly placed him in the friend zone, and he couldn’t stop thinking the exact opposite. But when she looked at him with a smile in those big blue eyes, it was hard to remember the things keeping them apart.

She had a kid. He didn’t want a kid.

She needed a husband. He was never getting married.

She was good. Sweet and kind and perfect. And he was…not.

When she’d shown up at his door wearing a breezy dress, his mind had immediately gone to what’s she wearing underneath? He pictured a lace thong and a matching bra. In light blue, same as her dress. No…pink. Would her skin be as soft as it looked? After he tossed the dress to the floor, he’d pull her hair out of the darn knot and run his fingers through the curls…

She would freak out if she knew what he was thinking. She would certainly not be asking him to show her the remaining bedroom in his house. He needed to get the tour over with before he embarrassed himself.

He walked down the hall and opened the door to the master. As she walked past him to gaze at the view, she innocently brushed his arm and it was all he could do not to drag her into his arms. He was reacting as though he were a teenager. An idiot, really.

“This is amazing! You can see the entire city from your bed. If I lived here, I would spend all my time in here.”

A shot of desire echoed through his body. GREAT idea.

He clenched his fists. No. Better to stop the wanting now. Once she got to know him, she’d leave and then where would he be? It was better not to get involved in the first place. Especially not with her.

Time for some cooler air away from the bed. “The balcony is through here.” He turned the glass knob on the french door to walk outside, and she followed him into the cool, springtime air.

“Is that a hot tub?” she asked.

“Are you kidding? It’s not a hot tub,” he said. “It’s a spa.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Hell if I know,” he said with a grin.

She shook her head at him. “I bet the ladies enjoy this.” She pitched her voice lower. “Wanna come over and see my hot t—spa?”

He did not want to talk about other women with Haley. It was wrong. And yet he couldn’t let her comment go. “You seem to think I get way more action than I do.”

She turned to him and widened her eyes. “Really?”

“I’ve never brought a woman to this house.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Like I said, I don’t do relationships.” And he certainly wouldn’t do them here, in his personal retreat.

So why was Haley here?

She scoffed. “It’s not from lack of options, I’m sure.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You’re a good-looking guy. Wealthy. And successful. To most women, you’re the perfect package.”

He couldn’t hide his grin. “Am I now?”

Although it was dark outside, he could swear her face turned red.
